I had sooo much fun stretching outside my comfort zone to make this cover to go on one of my art supply journals. This art journal cover was made using all sorts of stuff from the Prima Lavender collection. It really
stretched my artistic nature though and was outside the norm for what I like to create. I struggle with shabby chic and with the uncontrolled nature of mixed media. Instead, I prefer neat, tidy, even coverage, all the stuff that good mixed media is not. So this was a fun challenge for me and I love how it turned out.
I’ve really gotten a lot of use out of the dies that I ordered from the Card Making Magic Christina Collection. As of now, they’re only available from Craft Stash in the UK, but it was worth the overseas order. They actually arrived surprisingly quick and were a good value even when postage & exchange rates are taken into consideration.
When I first sat down to create with this collection, I played around and created a bunch of different elements that would coordinate. I wasn’t sure how I was going to use them, but wanted to have bits and bobs to design with. I used the oval frame die to cut several oval frames and painted them with different, coordinating colors that would match the papers. The Art Alchemy Metallique and Sparks paints were a perfect match. I have developed a bit of a crush on Dark Velvet.
This project is also the first time I used paper clay to create my own embellishments. I had purchased the flourish mould on Etsy a while back and never had a chance to pull it out. After un-molding each embellishment, I set them on some parchment paper to dry. In hindsight, I would probably not use that again. The moisture in the clay made the parchment paper curl and the embellishments held the shape of the paper as they dried. Since they’re so thin, the curl of the paper exerted more force than I expected. Readers, don’t try that at home!!
